Today, I was very surprised to learn that Texas Children’s Hospital, here in Houston, TX, does not have a therapy pool onsite. There was one, but it was filled in during the renovations after the Allison floods and never replaced. Instead, the staff have to use an indoor community pool which is barely warm and miles from the Medical Center. This means no in-patient aquatic therapy services.
Texas Children’s is one of the premier pediatric facilities in the country. And yet, the well-recognized benefits of aquatic therapy are denied…or at least, difficult to access…in one of the most well-respected health care communities in the world!
So, this caused me to wonder … what is available to the children out there who need and deserve these services….
